Kelli, M. (2024). Implicit Bias: Individuals’ Reactions to Unveiling Bias through the Race IAT.

  • Research project uncovering college students racial implicit bias through the Harvard RACE IAT and documenting their reactions to their test result.
  • I hypothesized students would respond with surprise, confusion, or disagreement concerning their racial bias test results.
  • The results showed fifty-six percent of students disagreed or strongly disagreed with their bias results, with twenty-seven percent saying the Harvard test itself was flawed.
  • Some students reported that their biases were learned from the lack of diversity in their childhood environments.
  • Some reported they are prone to automatically view their race as "good," but not necessarily other races as “good.”
  • My goal was to foster productive discussion on the taboo topic of racial bias.
