Work History

Investigator

North Platte Police Department
North Platte
07.1995 - Current
  • In 1993, I was hired as a route driver for Hipp Wholesale, a food distribution company, where I was responsible for planning delivery routes throughout western Nebraska. I stayed at this job for a total of two years until a law enforcement officer opportunity presented itself.
  • I worked as a Patrol Officer starting in July 1995. During this time, I worked on a variety of calls for service, including investigating motor vehicle accidents, which required a comprehensive report with an estimate of the damage caused and determining factors for the cause of the accident.
  • In 1998, I was promoted to the Crime Prevention Unit, where I worked as a liaison to our local media and area schools. I was also given a budget to oversee and designated as the coordinator for the Lincoln County Crime Stoppers Program.
  • Also in 1998, I used my Black Belt Hall of Fame Martial Arts experience to start a free program for At Risk and Troubled Youth called the No Limits Program. This Program targeted area troubled youth and used the Martial Arts to instill life values into these selected youth referred to me by area probation, schools, and even local judges. The program ended after 20 years touching the lives of 500 area youth and certifying 10 of these youth who completed the program as certified Black Belts.
  • In November 2000, I was promoted to the rank of investigator, where I was assigned to the Investigation Division. During this assignment, I was assigned a variety of cases, including a variety of white-collar crimes, property crimes, and crimes against persons, which included several homicides, one of which was featured on a NET network special, "Mind Over Murder."
  • After a three-year assignment, I was placed back into the patrol division, where I was assigned as a shift supervisor directly under a sergeant, directed to oversee the day-to-day operations of the shift of 4-5 patrol officers. I then returned to the Investigation Division for another two-year tour, where I worked on a variety of cases. Once again, some cases were extensive, time-consuming, and involved multiple suspects.
  • I was also certified as a Field Training Officer, assigned to train new officers over a 10-week training course. I stayed in the Field Training Officer position for a total of 20 years, training over 60 new officers during this time.
  • I am a strong believer in being involved in my local community and was involved in our area Scout troops, where I was an adult leader and committee chair, and stayed active for 16 years until both of my sons became Eagle Scouts.
  • I am currently a board member for Community Connections, which is involved in overseeing the area Tobacco Free Coalition and Mentoring Program, as well as other outreach efforts by other area agencies.
