Driver operator/Crew chief

  • During my time at Nellis AFB I was a crucial member of the team because I was one of the more experienced drivers.
  • So not only was I constantly driving on many different types of emergencies I was also a driver’s trainer.
  • One of my main duties other than being a daily driver was to ensure that all of our newer firefighters were all being trained on the vehicles we had in our fleet.
  • At Nellis AFB there was an abundant amount of different aircraft due to the nature of the mission so I was required to know the ins and outs of how to position on the different aircraft.
  • One of the biggest challenges for drivers at Nellis is the fact that there are so many Aircraft that even during an emergency we had to quickly but very safely navigate through the planes and people maintaining them.
  • Another big thing that I did at Nellis was be a first responder to medical emergencies and perform emergency medical procedures.
  • I would conduct initial and ongoing focused patient assessment and physical examination; determines priority of patient care based on assessment findings.
